Sugaring at home is a trend that's here to stay – and no wonder: it saves you money and time compared with visiting a professional studio. If you want the best possible result and to keep it up regularly, you need the best products for the job – ideally without stretching your budget.
You've probably come across lots of sugaring brands from around the world while looking for the right one for your bathroom. What they all have in common is sugaring paste – but even pastes can differ a lot, and so can the techniques each brand teaches, which means the results differ too.
When comparing brands, consider:
- Price structure: The number of jars can be misleading. Don't count jars – look at the cost per session. With Sugar Buddy, for example, all you need is one Sugar Buddy in the size of your choice and a sugaring spatula – nothing else.

Estimated number of sessions for the chosen area:
- 100g jar: 6 sessions
- 250g jar: 10–15 sessions
- 500g jar: 33 sessions
- Technique: What technique does the brand teach? The most important element of sugaring is removing the hair in its natural growth direction.
- Smart helpers: HejBuddy offers an interactive sugaring calculator so you can work out the real cost per session of sugaring at home.
- Extras: Some brands offer subscribers exclusive deals after they order – we can reveal that HejBuddy gives you 15% off your second order, and before your first order you can spin our wheel of fortune to save straight away.
- Support: HejBuddy offers support on every channel: by phone, on social media and by email. An interesting extra is our Sugaring School.
In this guide we compare the features, so you can decide which kit suits you best.

Sugaring paste quality
Sugaring pastes vary. Different brands make their paste from different ingredients.
How well a paste works depends on its softness (viscosity), the temperature of the room and your hands, and the body area you're sugaring. Choosing the right paste makes sugaring quick and effortless.
Some sugaring ranges have several pastes that need to be mixed together to work, or require you to add a very runny paste, for example.
HejBuddy has one paste that suits every area of skin. For large areas, warm it a little softer and let the warmth of your skin keep it soft. Smaller areas that tend to sweat, on the other hand, are happier when the paste isn't warmed too much. Sugar Buddy sugaring paste is designed to make choosing easy – that's why there's only one. -
Powder or talc?
It's a common misconception that sugaring always needs powder, kaolin or talc. If a paste is very runny or soft, it may need powder underneath so the water in the paste doesn't melt into the skin.
Talc doesn't protect the skin: Sugar Buddy doesn't stick to living skin because it hates fat – both lotions and the healthy skin's own lipids.
Sugar Buddy sugaring paste doesn't need powder – it's ready to use as it is. If you sweat a lot, dab the drops away with paper, and in hot weather we recommend sugaring in front of a fan.

Bare hands, gloves or a spatula?
The original sugaring technique is done by hand, with the paste worked in your hands. In 2020, HejBuddy became the first in Europe to bring in the sugaring spatula technique – and shook up the market. It led to one of the most common questions from people starting to sugar at home: what's the best tool for working the paste? Each technique has its pros and cons, and the best choice depends largely on the area you're sugaring, how soft the paste is and your own level of experience.
Checklist:
- Avoid sweating or activities that expose the sugared area to bacteria
- Avoid cosmetics that clog the follicles
- Exfoliate + moisturise between sessions
How often should you sugar?
For the best results, we recommend sugaring every 3–6 weeks. Sugaring works by regularly removing hair from the root, so the follicles weaken over time and produce less hair. You won't get there after your very first session – with sugaring, consistency is the key to success 🔑
