How to prepare your skin for sugaring
Sugaring suits all skin types. The ideal sugaring client has let their hair grow a little and has been moisturising and exfoliating regularly to prevent ingrown hairs.
1. Stop shaving
Stop shaving, epilating or using hair removal creams. A good rule of thumb is 2 weeks after shaving, and longer after other methods.
2. Let your hair grow
For your first session, let the hair grow to about 4–5 mm. As a rule of thumb, the longer the hair, the faster the sugaring – the more hairs the paste grabs at once, the quicker you're done.
3. Exfoliate and moisturise before sugaring day
While your hair grows, exfoliate 1–2 times a week and moisturise morning and night. Make exfoliating, moisturising and drinking water part of your skincare routine. Your skin loves hydration from the outside and the inside, and supple skin makes sugaring easier too. Don't exfoliate or moisturise on the day you sugar.
4. Sugar

Sugaring at home or in the studio
When it comes to prep, it makes no difference whether you sugar at home or in a studio. Sugaring paste is a natural product and works the same way at home as in a salon – but sugaring at home saves you a lot of money and time, because you don't need to go anywhere.
