Sugaring comes with plenty of stubborn myths, and one of the most common is the fear that you'll end up with thick, dark stubble on your face, or that hair will grow back faster and stronger. But remember: facial sugaring removes hair from the root, so new hairs grow back finer and softer.

Where does stubble come from? 🤨
When hair is removed from the root, it grows back from scratch and the tip stays soft. Prickly stubble, on the other hand, appears when hair is cut – by shaving, for example – leaving the thicker middle part of the hair exposed, which feels rougher. After shaving, regrowth is quickly noticeable, but after sugaring hair grows back more slowly and finer.
Does hair grow back faster after sugaring?
No. After sugaring, hair grows back following its normal growth cycle. In fact, if you sugar your face regularly at home, hair growth may even slow down over time. HejBuddy products make facial sugaring easy and effective at home.
How to sugar your face at home:
- Cleanse and prep your skin. Wash your face thoroughly with an oil-free product and dry it. Make sure there's no grease or oil left on your skin – clean, dry skin guarantees the best grip.
- Prepare the paste. Warm your Sugar Buddy paste gently in the microwave (5–10 seconds at a time) until it's soft and dough-like, but not runny or hot. Fine facial hair works well with slightly softer paste, which also makes spreading nicer.
- Spread the paste against the direction of hair growth. Take a small amount of paste on the spatula and spread it against the growth direction. On the face, a support grip is especially important! Always hold the skin taut with your other hand and smooth out any creases as much as possible. For example, do the upper lip in two halves (right side, left side) for a neat, gentle result.
- Flick the paste off in the direction of hair growth. Keep your support grip and flick the paste off firmly with the spatula in one quick movement, in the direction of hair growth. This removes the hair from the root without breaking it. Move on to the next small section and work calmly until you're done.
- Follow the aftercare instructions. For a few days, don't apply make-up to the sugared area, sunbathe or have treatments such as a facial acid peel.
Can men sugar their beard?
We don't recommend sugaring established beard hair: research shows that beard hairs can grow in a network under the skin. Not in everyone, but in some people. You can't see this network from the outside, so if you spread paste over, say, half a beard, you can never know whether it will catch that network – and when you flick the paste off, a strong "beard network" can pull through and tear the skin. Don't try sugaring a strong beard.
