Buyer's guide: how to choose your sugar wax
Sugaring is a hair removal method where warm sugar paste grips the hair but not the skin. That makes it gentler than wax – and a good fit for sensitive skin or skin that gets irritated by shaving. Below are three things to check before your first order: size, technique and how often to sugar.
Choose the right size
How much sugar wax you need depends on the area and on the length and thickness of your hair. Choose the 100g travel size, the award-winning 250g starter kit with spatula, or the bigger 500g jar – enough for about 10 sessions of 50g.
Hair length matters
You'll get the best result when hair is about 5–7 mm long – or long enough to pinch between your fingertips. Hair that's too short won't grip the paste properly and needs a lot more work.
Warm before use
The paste often works straight from the jar, but sugaring is more comfortable if you briefly warm it in the microwave or a water bath as instructed, so it softens slightly.
Don't skip aftercare
- Avoid sweating and sauna for 24 hours
- Use a non-comedogenic moisturiser
- Wait at least 3 days before exfoliating

How often should I sugar?
Most people sugar every 3–6 weeks. Done regularly, hair growth gets weaker over time.
How long does hair need to be for sugaring?
About 5–7 mm gives the best result. Hair that's too short won't grip the paste properly.
Do I need talc or powder with Sugar Buddy?
No. Sugar Buddy is designed to be worked without talc – it only needs clean, dry skin.
How do I warm the sugar wax?
Sugar Buddy often works straight from the jar at room temperature. For a softer, easier spread, warm the jar (lid off) in the microwave for 5 seconds at a time – 10 seconds max – or in a hot water bath for about 15 minutes. Don't overheat. ⚠️
What's the difference between Sugar Buddy 100g, 250g and 500g?
100g is a trial kit for trying sugaring, 250g includes a spatula and is our starter kit, and 500g is the refill for those already sugaring.
